Munchkin, Inc. Reminds Women Everywhere "Don't Duck a Breast Exam"

08-08-08

NORTH HILLS, Calif. (August 5, 2008) In an effort to spotlight early breast cancer detection and remind women everywhere, "don't duck a breast exam", Munchkin Inc., designer and manufacturer of infant and toddler products, today announced the launch of its 3rd Annual Project Pink campaign which promotes the sale of signature pink bath ducks to raise money to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

"As this disease can strike women at any point in their life, our goal for the Project Pink campaign is to help promote education, awareness and early detection," says Doug Gillespie, Munchkin vice president of marketing.  "Munchkin wants to help moms with the myriad little tasks that stand between them and the quality time they spend with their children.  With Project Pink, we're playing a small role by reminding moms to focus on maintaining their health today so they can get back to what they love most about parenting every day."

Project Pink is a multifaceted program involving both consumer and celebrity components, which are all brought together online through a new Web site at www.munchkin.com/ProjectPink.  The program includes:

  • Email A Duck, Raise A Buck - This viral component enables individuals to email friends a virtual duck that reminds them to participate in routine breast exams.  Users may track their ducks as they are forwarded, and in turn, Munchkin will donate $0.05 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for each forwarded eCard.
  • Buy Your Own Duck - Created to be a visual reminder of routine breast exams, Munchkin's 2008 limited edition Project Pink Bath Ducks will be available online and at select retailers nationwide for $3.00.  One hundred percent of the net profits from the sale of these ducks will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
  • Celebrity Duck eBay Auction - Celebrity participants from Julianne Moore to Tori Spelling have shown support of Project Pink by donating hand-decorated and autographed limited edition ducks.   Each week in October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a number of celebrity-decorated ducks will be available for auction exclusively on eBay with all proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  Through Munchkin's online photo gallery, visitors will get a glimpse of soon-to-be-auctioned ducks decorated by Courteney Cox and David Arquette, Steven Weber, Marissa Jaret Winokur and more.

"Whether you buy a pink duck or simply spread the word, you can help us help moms stay healthy so they can get back to being great parents," continued Gillespie.
