If you’ll be traveling with your baby for summer vacation (or at any other time throughout the year!), we bet one of your biggest concerns is how in the world you’re going to change a diaper without the perfect setup of your changing table at home – or without the luxury of access to those wonderful restaurants and shops that have a diaper changing station.

While it may seem daunting to have to manage a diaper change in the car, on an airplane or on a train, it can definitely be done. We’re not promising it will be convenient but, once you’re equipped with our diaper changing tips below, it will at least be a less challenging experience.

Changing a Diaper in a Car

When traveling on the road, whether it will be for a day trip or for a longer period of time to get to a vacation destination, it’s inevitable that you’ll have to change a diaper in your car at one point or another. But no need to fear – a car is probably one of the best places (outside of the home) to change a diaper – as long as you do a bit of planning ahead and have the minimum items needed to create a car diaper changing station.

Changing a Diaper on a Plane

Depending on the airplane you fly on, you may get lucky with bathrooms that have changing tables inside, in which case, it will be much less of a hassle! In the event you’re on a plane without any diaper changing stations, ask the flight attendant to direct you to the best spot on the plane for a diaper change.

Just be sure to have a disposable changing pad to place down, as well as an odor-absorbing bag to place the dirty diaper in, and work quickly to get the job done and back to the comfort of your seat!

Changing a Diaper on a Train

Many Amtrak trains have changing tables in the bathrooms, especially those on long routes. But you’ll still want to pack some disposable changing pads and odor-absorbing bags, as you would for a plane. If you do need to change your baby’s diaper without the convenience of an actual changing table, you’ll have more room than on a plane since the seats and aisles on a train are more spacious.
